Solved
Any hints on how to remove my 50 year old pinion oil seal?
All I’ve managed to do with a seal puller is this:

That's a start.
Try 180* from the top 2 gouges.

Thanks, Ken. Got it out, obvious should have thought of that myself.
Bentley makes it sound so simple:
Remove the drive flange
Withdraw the oil seal
Fit a new seal
Refit the drive flange
No mention of bearing preload I’ve read so much about on here. Why is that?

I think you'll find that Haynes goes into a little more detail in that part of the procedure, Tom.,
but you will have to wait to install the oil seal until after the preload is established, if you have the collapsible spacers with a nyloc pinion nut and did not count the turns to remove the pinion nut
If you happened to have solid spacers, not the collapsible spacers, you don't need to worry about the preload just tighten the nut.

This car is a ‘75, so theoretically it should have the collapsible spacer. But it doesn’t have the Nyloc nut, it has a castellated nut, so that indicates a solid spacer, correct?

Thanks Ken. I’m going to install the oil seal and put the flange back and tighten the nut to 90-120 lb-ft. and call it a day.
I also replaced the axle seals, which were easy, except I had to have a machine shop press the flanges off the tapered axle shafts. Again Bentley makes it seem so easy, lol.

You should be able to tell if you go slow if you are squishing a collapsible spacer more or not. Good luck

Ken, TRF catalog shows shims used with the solid spacer to adjust the preload, but indicates shims were not used with the collapsible spacer from the factory. I definitely have several shims so I’m fairly certain I have the solid spacer.
