YOUR INSPIRATION TO EXPLORE THE WORLD
Rohan Vasa, Writer
You have St. Tropez on the calendar. And of course you’ll plan to be in Ibiza in July. Hamptons for a few weekends here and there. But are there any off-grid yet still relatively easy destinations that deserve to be on the list? Somewhere you won’t run into everyone from the PTA? The answer is yes, and it’s this luxury surf hotel in Portugal. Immerso is barefoot surf luxury that’s as chic and insider as it gets. Here’s a preview of this new hotel that’s part of the Querido group.
A Curated Group of Hotels
Querido is a selection of the best family-owned hotels. You pretty much you know it’s good if Querido has it in its portfolio. The word querido means “cherished one” and that goes to the heart of the parent company’s mission. The most recent addition is Immerso, located in Ericeira, Portugal. It only just opened, and it’s already one of the great insider destinations of this summer.
Ericeira – The Beach Town You Don’t Know
Only thirty minutes from Lisbon but with a totally off-the-grid vibe, Ericeira is Europe’s most sought-after surfing destination. With over 40 beaches on the country’s western coastline, this small seaside village is an authentic, rustic retreat. Before, rustic meant no good hotels. That changed when Immerso, the first local five-star hotel, arrived on the scene.
Authentic, Sustainable Luxury
The project brought together architect Tiago Silva Dias, designer Barbara Neto, and landscape architect Margarida Quelhas with the goal to create an estate that embraces its surroundings. Within this natural setting, Immerso focuses on sustainability, with a genuine appreciation for the habitats and ecosystems that make the area so unspoiled and so uniquely Portugal. Most of the furniture and decorations are made in Portugal, often by artisans from the community. This approach is taken in all areas of the experience. Careful consideration is made to reduce carbon emissions, prohibit plastics, and use locally grown products.
Immerso has37 rooms and suites either facing the ocean or the valley. Equally attractive are the prices; they start at just over $300 a night. In addition, you can expectrestaurants by chef Alexandre Silva, a spa, pool, organic garden, and even a surfboard workshop. In other words, Immerso levels up the experience you can have in a totally unspoiled destination.
Dining
The restaurant, Emme, has cuisine by Alexandre Silva with produce grown from its own garden. Immerso even has its own craft beer, made on the property, and the hops too are grown in the organic garden. Emme on Fire features a bonfire with a menu focused on dishes made in flames. A veranda offers a chance to sit closer to nature and feel the ocean breeze. Similarly, the pool bar is a chill place to relax.
Amenities
The spa includes a sauna, treatment rooms, baths, and steam rooms. The atmosphere inspires you to get your Om on, so Immerso also has spaces set aside for yoga, both inside and outside. For those who want to explore the area, here are trails for hikes, or hotel bikes that let you get up close and personal with nature. Of course, the area is world-renowned for great surfing, so take a few local lessons if you’ve gotten a little wobbly on the board. Keep a lookout for Immerso on the Galavante Travel Shop, which will launch in May. (Think of the Travel Shop as luxury trips at the click of a button.) A stay at Immerso may make this your best summer yet.
