Welcome to another installment of A Memory of Music. Each month we reach out for some of the best music related images from all over the counrty, so join us for a trip down memory lane for February of 2011 and remember to click on the photos for full resolution images.

As we mentioned earlier this month, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals have been on a roll of late. February was no different as the band played sold out shows in Boston, New Orleans, Atlanta and elsewhere. Fans in Dallas were given a special treat when Grace sang a duet with Scott Tournet of country star Kenny Chesney’s You and Tequila, a song that will appear on his upcoming album, Hemingway’s Whiskey.

Umphreys McGee is on a streak of its own, selling out 19 of its first 23 dates of 2011, including the past 10 straight shows on this month’s tour. Sit-ins on the tour have ranged from legendary pop-star John Oates to one-man-band Keller Williams to the mini-blues sensation – 15-year-old Jake Haldenwang. Keyboardist Joel Cummins left the fans with this final thought, “Thank you…best tour ever.”

We’re barely a week into 2011 and we’ve already got our first major summer festival line up announcement of the season that has us excited for the warmer months ahead. Earlier today the fine folks behind the Wakarusa Music Festival dropped a monster list of bands that will take to the variety of tents and stages over the weekend of June 2 -5 at Mulberry Mountain in Ozark, Arkansas.

Now in it’s seventh year, the jam-friendly festival will be headlined by the mighty My Morning Jacket, who are joined at the top of the bill by Ben Harper & Relentless7, Thievery Corporation and STS9.

Other acts set to head to Mulberry Mountain this year will be HT faves Umphrey’s McGee, Mumford & Sons, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Galactic, Dark Star Orchestra, Perpetual Groove, Those Darlins and These United States.

A variety of ticketing options for the four day festival are currently on-sale, which include an early bird full event pass for the low price of $139.

Kicking off this month’s edition of our look at the month in photographs are a couple shots from Halloween.The first one is an amusing photo of Bill Nershi of the String Cheese Incident, face to face with his pint size replica at the Hampton Coliseum on Hulaween. Apparently an enterprising photographer snuck the little guy up on stage, giving everyone a good laugh. You can check out tapes from the evening on the archive and livecheese.com

A review of the last few weeks wouldn’t be complete without a nod to Phish’s triumphant three night celebration in Atlantic City. Whether it was the Zeppelin and Little Feat covers, the outrageous costumes by the fans, the late night shows or all night parties at the Tropicana, a great time was had by all. Perhaps too good a time in one case.

In an age of Facebook, Twitter and any number of social media outlets capable of documenting the minutia of your day to day life, sometimes something as simple as the lost art of the phone call serves as the best way to connect with someone on a personal level. For their latest social activism campaign, HeadCount is doing just that by taking a back to basics approach in order to remind people to head to the polls to exercise the Constitutional right to vote in next Tuesday’s mid-term elections.

The non-partisan organization, that was founded in 2004 by Andy Bernstein and Disco Biscuits bassist Marc Brownstein, and has helped register over 175,000 people, has enlisted a impressive roster of musicians from the indie to jam world, that includes Jim James (MMJ), Willie Nelson, ?uestlove,Matt Berninger (The National), Jon Fishman (Phish) and Warren Haynes (ABB, Gov’t Mule) to not only pre-record reminder messages, but also make live personal calls to a select number of the approximately 25,000 people who have made a “Pledge to Vote” via HeadCount.

In a media conference call yesterday to talk about the inventive initiative, HeadCount board member Bob Weir (Grateful Dead/Furthur) stressed the importance of a “Vote For You” mentality, saying that young people need to take the future into consideration and participate instead of letting a bunch of “crusty old folks” made the decisions that have direct impact on their lives and those of future generations. Weir, who joked that his call list was so large he better get to work on it immediately, said that would seize the opportunity to talk to people to help figure out where the organization’s efforts will be centered in the future.
