“4-H has provided an integrated learning technique that captures and holds the children’s attention. No matter what age or learning style they may have, at the end of each lesson the children are able to share with you what they’ve learned,” shares Ms. Jackson, the community activities coordinator at City of Jacksonville Joe James Community Center. **new paper out!** Research on educational inequality often focuses on institutional practices, teachers, and parents. But how children themselves behave towards their classmates might also influence the extensive barriers that some children face at school. Across 3 studies children as young as 7 years helped peers in ways that perpetuated competence-based inequality. https://lnkd.in/eZK8eyvJthis work is part of my NWO (Dutch Research Council) VENI @Utrecht University & a special issue on educational inequality in @npj Science of Learning (more work soon!)

Transformative Educational Leader Dedicated to Scholar Success

Education is a powerful tool for change, but if we don't take active steps to remove the barriers that prevent fair access to it, we'll only perpetuate cycles of disadvantage. As educators, administrators, and stakeholders in the educational system, we are responsible for achieving equitable access to education.·Understand the unique needs of each community and scholar.·Develop and deploy resources strategically to address disparities.· Foster environments where every scholar can thrive regardless of their background. Together, we can strive for systemic change, ensuring every scholar receives the education they deserve. What strategies have you found effective in promoting equity? Let's inspire and empower each other to create a more just education system.#SystemicChange #EducationalLeadership #EquitableEducation

One of the biggest challenges facing higher education is effective, meaningful community engagement. It's not enough to work at the 'knowledge exchange' level - we need to inspire and empower students to be active participants in their local neighbourhoods. In one of our Problem-Based Learning modules, our first-year undergraduates at LIS: The London Interdisciplinary School are exploring ways of supporting under-represented and under-served groups to get their voices heard in local environmental planning. If you're working with a school, a youth group, a women's organisation, or a food growing project in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, we'd be super grateful for a few minutes of your time. We'd love to invite you to our campus to share your insights with one of our classes in person, if you're available. If that's not possible for you, please message me or reply below and I'll share survey links or discuss other ways you can get involved. We also have lots of students getting ready to embark on 7-week individual projects, so if there's a small piece of research that could make a big difference to your organisation, let me know and I'll add it to our inspiration list! #ProblemBasedLearning #CommunityEngagement #RethinkingEducationMore on our problems-based learning approach here: https://lnkd.in/d5VnTsYS

The pursuit of education equity is both an aspiration and a call to action. It's about addressing deep-rooted disparities and advocating for lasting change. 🤝In today's world, educational inequality persists in various forms, from disparities in resources to unequal access. 📊 But rather than despair, we choose to focus on solutions -- from resource allocation to mentorship. Education equity isn't a single battle but a continuous effort. Together, let's persist in our mission to break down barriers, create opportunities, and ensure that every student has an equal chance to thrive. 🌟🌐 #EducationEquity #SolutionsForChange #SagelyAdvising
