Where Will My Procedure Be Performed?
Our plastic surgeon can perform your breast augmentation surgery at Baptist Hospital; a nearby outpatient surgical facility; or the Associates Surgery Center, located adjacent to our office in Oklahoma City. After the breast implant procedure, you can recover at the surgery center, in the adjacent surgical ward at Baptist Hospital, or at other overnight medical facilities.

Primary Breast Implant Surgery
We perform primary breast augmentation surgery to address small, misshapen, tuberous, or asymmetrical breasts.
Breast Implant Revision
Dr. Lowe can also fix breast implants when patients aren't satisfied with their previous surgeon's results. He can also remove and replace old implants.
Breast Lift and Implants
Patients that have sagging breasts and drooping nipples may want a breast lift in combination with enhancement. Dr. Lowe can perform an internal breast lift, which prevents any outer breast scars. He also offers traditional breast lift techniques.
Breast Implant Options
One of the main decisions we will make is the type of implant to use. With each of these options, the goal is to achieve natural and proportional results after your breast augmentation.
Saline
Saline implants are the least expensive option and are filled during surgery after they have been placed. The benefit of this implant option is safety: if there is a rupture, the saline can be safely absorbed by the body and the effect will be immediately noticeable to the patient, allowing us to correct it as soon as possible. The downside is that saline implants may not feel or look as natural in women with smaller amounts of breast tissue.
Silicone
Silicone implants have come a long way in the past few decades. They are now filled with a cohesive silicone gel material that stays in place in case of a rupture, improving the safety profile of silicone implants. The disadvantage is that women have to undergo MRIs to determine if silicone gel implants have ruptured. However, implants filled with silicone are known to last longer and offer a more natural look and feel. The majority of women choose the silicone gel option.
Size and Profiles
Breast implants come in a range of sizes and profiles. The size and profile that is right for you depends on the amount of breast tissue you have and the results you desire.
Shape and Texture
Breast implants come in round and teardrop shapes. Round implants can produce more cleavage and teardrop implants are intended to produce a more natural appearance. Round implants typically have a smooth texture, while shaped implants may be textured (a rougher surface) to keep the implant in place after surgery.

Incision Location
The type of incision necessary will depend on your unique circ*mstances and cosmetic goals. In many cases, it is made in the crease under the breast, through the navel, in the armpit, or around the perimeter of the areola. Dr. Lowe strategically places the incisions to minimize the appearance of scars.
Implant Placement
The breast implants can be placed above or beneath the chest muscles. In most cases, they are placed below the chest muscles to produce more natural looking breast augmentation results.
Breast Augmentation Treatment Process
Anesthesia
Before beginning the breast augmentation procedure, we will administer general anesthesia. This ensures that the patient remains sedated during the treatment, so she will not feel, see, or hear anything until the surgery is complete.
Incisions
Once you have been fully prepped, Dr. Lowe creates the incisions through which to insert the implant.
Implant Placement
Next, breast implants are placed in the breast pocket, either over or under the chest muscle. Once they are positioned and securely in place, the incision is closed with sutures.
Sutures
Depending on the case, Dr. Lowe may use traditional or absorbable stitches. Traditional sutures will need to be removed approximately seven to 14 days after your surgery. In contrast, absorbable incisions will dissolve on their own when they are ready.

Healing and Recovery: What to Expect
The team at our Oklahoma City practice will provide you with in-depth post-operative instructions before you return home. These should be followed closely to promote proper healing and a successful recovery.
Discomfort
It is normal to have some degree of tenderness or soreness for the first couple of days. However, these side effects can be managed with prescribed medications and over-the-counter pain relievers.
Drains
Bandages and surgical drains may be placed to reduce swelling once your breast augmentation surgery is complete. Our team will give you a list of guidelines to help you properly care for these drains.
Compression Bra
You will also be provided with a surgical compression bra, which is intended to reduce inflammation and support the tissues as they heal. This should be worn for several weeks.
Resuming Work and Normal Activities
While most patients can resume normal activities in about one week, this can vary significantly from patient to patient. For instance, patients with physically demanding jobs will likely need to wait longer before they can return to work.
Strenuous Activity
Patients should avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting until cleared by Dr. Lowe. These activities can elevate the heart rate and consequently lead to increased pain, swelling, and discomfort.
