Duke Animal Hospital is a privately owned hospital located in the Lakeview/Wrigleyville neighborhood of Chicago. We have over 15,000 patients in our active care. We have 8 full-time veterinarians and a large support staff. We are looking to add more full-time and/or part-time associates because we have a very busy and always growing hospital. New graduates are most welcome. Our clients are dedicated to their pets and motivated to seek gold standard veterinary care. We treat primarily dogs and cats and we also treat exotic pets (birds, small mammals, reptiles, ferrets, rabbits, rodents, some amphibians). Experience in exotic animal medicine is not required as we provide close one-on-one mentorship in all areas including exotic pet medicine.
Our hours are Monday through Saturday 7 am to 7 pm. We close all major holidays and the eve of some holidays. We work in two teams that rotate three 12 hour shifts per week (week one schedule is Monday, Friday, Saturday; week 2 schedule is Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). This schedule leaves staff with Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday off on week one and Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday off on week two and provides excellent work/life balance for everyone. In terms of medical support, we have the “best of both worlds” because there are three 24-hour emergency centers in close proximity. We can keep and treat our own emergency and surgical cases but we also have the option of referring cases as needed and have great specialty support.
We offer wellness care, illness care and emergency services. We routinely perform surgeries such as spay, neuter, periodontal cleaning and surgical extractions, mass removal, laparotomy, splenectomy, enucleation, cystotomy, etc. We have a ForceTriad surgical unit with Ligasure dividing and sealing instrumentation as well as a smoke evacuator and hand-controlled blended electrocautery. We have an advanced dental suite with two tables, two VetPro 1000 hand piece units, Progeny digital dental radiography and a Cocoon hand-held x-ray unit. We take full mouth radiographs and perform advanced dental procedures including creating gingival flaps, alveolar bone removal, root sectioning, alveoloplasty and gingival releasing for closure.
Dr. Duke is studying to become a certified Veterinary Dental Practitioner with the International Veterinary Dental Institute and all associates are sent to the advanced canine and feline extraction 16 hour wet lab with Dr. Brett Beckman's instruction group. Dental prophylaxis and interventional care is the backbone of our practice and we are very involved in providing highest level dental support to our patients. Many surrounding general practices refer their dental cases to us because of our higher level of training and expertise.
We have a Class IV Companion laser unit which we use for arthritis, wound management, and other conditions. We have an two ultrasound machines with real time Oncura sonographer support. This is a great learning environment for ultrasound. We generally do two or three ultrasounds a week, often more. We also have the ability to do GlobalFast ultrasounds and sonographer guided echocardiograms.
We have a formalized written mentorship program to make sure each new associate receives close one-on-one strong mentorship and support. Our mentorship is provided day in and day out, hour by hour, and case by case and in real time. New associates are never left to work alone and always have a senior veterinarian(s) working by their side.
We have a very strong support staff with 2 technicians and an assistant assigned to every veterinarian per shift. We have a seasoned technical staff and we continually provide training to raise the experience level of all of the support staff.

About Duke Animal Hospital
We opened on the north side of Chicago in April 2012. We have been very successful and are now an 8 doctor practice open 6 days a week. We have an excellent staff of receptionists, technicians, assistants and hospital attendants. We are fortunate to have an affluent client base who are very dedicated to their pets as family members. Our services include comprehensive wellness care, diagnosis and treatment of sick or injured pets, and surgical and dental procedures. We provide onsite ultrasound and echocardiography and see emergency cases as they arise during our hours of operation. We use a paperless, cloud-based practice management software and are equipped with in-house laboratory equipment, digital radiography, color flow doppler Oncura ultrasound with sonographer remote support, a surgical suite including ForceTriad Ligasure and electrocautery instrumentation, and dental suite including Progeny digital dental radiograph and a Vetpro 1000 high speed dental unit. We are currently in the process of expanding from 4,000 sf to 8,200 sf and will be adding laparascopy and endoscopy to our offered services which is very exciting.
